Overview
- Dancing On Common Ground is one the most exciting,
entertaining and universally appealing shows available
today. Aptly described by one reviewer as "Riverdance
meets Stomp and Tap Dogs, this show takes up where
Riverdance leaves off ".
Common
Ground enjoys the resurgence in popularity of Irish
step-dancing, one of the oldest forms of dance, and celebrates its
connection with two distinctly American dance forms - tapping and
clogging. Common Ground takes all three dance forms
to a new level of performance, creating a new dance style with
global appeal.
Using
exciting choreography and traditional and original music, Dancing
On Common Ground takes the audience on a thrilling adventure
from the arrival of the Irish during the potato famine of 1848
through the evolution of Irish dance and music into its present
day American forms. The rigid form of Irish step dancing
gave birth to tapping as Irish dance blended with African rhythms
in the cities. Over generations in the isolated Blue Ridge
and Appalachian coal mining areas, the same step dancing became
American Traditional - most commonly called "country
clogging".
Irish
music had a similar evolution as it evolved from traditional folk
tunes to bluegrass, country and eventually rock 'n roll.
What's
so special about this show? - Dancing
On Common Ground connects with audience members on many
levels, creating an indelible impression. Time and again
audiences say Common Ground is the best show of the
season. The cast is young (average age 22), talented,
enthusiastic and delighted to be performing - they captivate the
audience.
What do people who have seen
the show say?
"Common
Ground was SUPERIOR to Riverdance. We're from Manhattan.
We saw Riverdance and we found that the pace, the variety,
the energy of Common Ground was far more enjoyable.
We want to know where Common Ground is performing so
we can tell our family and friends to go see it." -

“Congratulations
on a wonderful, exciting, delightful program. I was in the
Regis College audience this afternoon and am amazed at the energy,
precision, variety of the dancing with the added joy of watching
the cast have more enjoyment than the audience. Please come
back to the Boston area SOON. Or Southern New Hampshire!
